Some bad news.

Hey everyone, zircon here.

I have some bad news to report to everyone. Some of you may have seen this coming, and others, perhaps not, but here it is: I'm leaving VGDJ. There is not a complex set of reasons behind this, unlike why we both took a break. Simply put, while I had a lot of fun in the ~6 months I spent as a cohost, the show has never been my highest priority compared to my relationship with Jill, school, or my endeavors as a musician trying to make a career out of his work. In particular, since I plan on being self-employed by the end of college, I feel like I must really focus myself on earning a sizable salary from music. And, unfortunately, I can't maintain enthusiasm for doing the show while these other things are on my plate.

I want to emphasize that this was not Jill's decision but mine. She was ready and willing to continue, and had already gotten stuff together for Magfest - a mixer and mics to record our panel, a logo for a business card to hand out at the festival to give to ReMixers, a new plan for integrating the podcast with the site, and other things like that. And I wish I was able to come to a decision about this before she spent her own time working on developing the show further, but I suppose it was not until today that I realized there was no point in me continuing if I could not really put my full effort into doing it. It wouldn't be fair to you, the listeners, nor would it be fair to Jill, who has really been the driving force behind VGDJ ever since she first got involved.

So... I am sorry to everyone that this came suddenly, and I'm sorry that because of my decision the show has to stop. I wish it could have come at a different time, or that my career didn't require exorbitant amounts of time and energy to truly develop. I will still be on OCR judging mixes and posting. I'll still be writing tutorials. I'll still listen to and comment on WIPs, go to meetups, and idle on IRC. I had a blast hosting the show with Jill, and we put out some really great material... from interviews, to VGL, Otakon, the meetups, Flow Basket, crazy stingers, and everything in between.

Peace, and I hope everyone can still be cool with me. The archives are always here for your enjoyment and both pixietricks and myself are only a click away if you ever wanna talk. Catch you later.

P.S. Jill is not looking for another cohost right now, but this is not necessarily the end of VGDJ forever. It is simply difficult to add a new host when there is no one around who knows the ins and outs of how the show runs, including all of the technical aspects (primarily editing).

This is sad news, indeed. Very shocking, too. To tell you the truth I did not see this coming...

I won't hold anything against both of you. However, I was really looking forward to one last "hurrah"...a swan-song if you will..in order to give this excellent project the send-off it deserves. Hopefully the stuff you're recording in MAGfest won't go to waste...

You guys had an excellent run. You've influenced a lot of people that videogame music isn't just a fling by promoting OCR as much as possible. Nothing you did went to waste and I hope that reasons you stated in the hiatus post didn't affect this cancellation. Plus, it's possible some people out there who will pick up your torch and light the way for a new podcast project seperate from the VGDJ one.

Good luck to both of you. Your voices, enthusiasm, humor, and chemistry shall be missed.

Hey no hard feelings at all, Zircon. That's completely understandable and I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your degree and with making music. I've always been a fan of your stuff (always being for the last year or so since I found OCReMix) and you've sure as heck got talent so don't ever give up on music, especially when it's what you're passionate about. You'll be missed but you'll be around. And I'm sure the podcast will find a way to survive in the future :) Best of luck.

I can't say I'm surprised, although it is a huge disappointment. Good luck to you in all you do, and hopefully someone is able to step up and help Jill out with the podcast before too long.

Haha....Alright irony seems to be the topic of my life lately. its been a few years how since i've listened to OCR or whatever...i'm To lazy to DL real music on my slow connection...so i started midi and got into game music. Learning some ish on the piano here and ther then finally getting to the mp3 ocr thinking wow alot better than gay midi. Wasting hours dl when i could prolly just go to a torrent at a friends. Anyways After getting on OCR dl a few gigs of cool songs i finally heard of Jill pixietricks...listened to her stuff yeah yeah, turned into my favorite singer. Listened to the mixes all the time wondering who the person behind the Mix was. Then i Heard Zircons sub opus...Damn i like that mix...right now its my favorite..thus putting my intrested into zircons work. I had no idea my two most identified people on Ocr had a podcast...It just didn't dawn on me cause i wasn't much of a forum guy...total plain ole listener when i'm doing stuff on the computer. Now it was time to investigate the long time mystery mixers of my listenings. Last week I listened to my first podcast and added you guys on numerous differen't sites just to fill the curiousity. Then i saw that you two were dating. To you me reading that is nothing...but the only two mixers besides alittle on jared hudson looking up information about turn out to be dating in the entire world of OCR was just absolutely mind blowing to me. I Thought it was incredibly awesome. With all the none nerdy things i do in my life This Jock Had his mind change to see what awesome lays behind the music. Now my intrest has peaked your show cancels right after i had finally seen it. Hahaha a good laugh i share...i feel your passion and i'm sad your done when i feel i'm the fan youv been waiting for. I won't share much sympathy as I wait to see you two grow. L8r dude...none of this sounds alittle creepy does it? Haha---Faduger\Jared

It's awful that you're leaving, but it's certainly understandable given the circumstances. I loved this podcast, and I'll still be listening to older episodes.

I'm in agreement with what swordbreaker said about giving this project a well deserved send-off. I think it would be cool if you guys could manage to put together something like you did for the 50th episode (where all of the previous hosts, as well as djpretzel, were guests) as a finale. I know that's a bit unrealistic, but this show is just too awesome to end without some type of big finish.

I wish you the best of luck in all of your other endeavors, and I really think that you'll get somewhere with your music career. Hell, Impulse prime won like three awards. So, if quitting VGDJ means that you'll get even further with your music career, then I don't think anyone could blame you for doing so.

The show will be missed, but it'll always live on in memory.

- Chris

I really want to thank you for all the hard work. When I think back of this summer, I can recall times when I was at work listening to you two, and I have to say, I am going to miss the show and both of you. You guys had become very close to me as I was an avid listener for as long as both of you have been hosting VGDJ. You will be missed, but all good things do come to an end...good luck in all your work!

Hey Jared,

No, it's not creepy at all! I think it's cool that you discovered us through all those connections. Kinda like a treasure hunt... I'm sorry you had to find this "prize" at the end, though. But hey, there are 66 episodes of VGDJ to listen through, so no reason this has to be terrible news!

Everybody: we will be recording the Magfest panel if all goes well, so you'll hear us on one last episode together, although it won't take the usual format. <3 <3 <3

Man, this really does suck, but I totally understand. I just wanted to let you guys know how mcuh of an influence you have made on my life. Before your podcast I was just a guy who visited OCR every once in a while to get some good music, but now I feel like I'm a part of the community. I've started remxing, I hang out on IRC and in the forums, and I've met a lot of really nice people. Because of you I discovered other sites like ThaSauce and OLRemix. Thank you to you guys and all previous hosts for giving me the inspiration to get involved. I hope that VGDJ does'nt die out completly, and that pixietricks might be able to find a new host or something. Also thanks for the OCR shirt that I won in the cosplay contest. I wish both of you good luck with whatever you do with your lives. Thanks for a great podcast.

*standing Ovation for Zircon* Truly saddening. But, There are more important things in the world, and your work and your lady are the two most important, but not necessarily in that order. ^_~ I hope that your music goes well, and I will be waiting for your next CD release, even if it is on Itunes. So peace out, and Good luck!
