VGDJ: Shownotes #067

[00:00] The future of VGDJ is in voice synthesizers. Srsly.
[01:13] Wee! We're back on the airwaves... or... inter-waves. And we remembered how to use our mics too!
[01:46] ...though, unfortunately, as you may have read in our earlier news post, this will be but a brief comeback. Episode 067 is our final episode. Nuuuu! But while this is our last official episode, who knows what the future holds? Maybe we'll pop back in sometime for a special occasion. And of course, we're not disappearing off the face of the Earth; you can still talk to use anytime on IRC!
[04:54] Quite a bit has happened in the land of OCReMix since our last show - most notably, vBulletin is now online! With that came numerous forum changes, such as the addition of a Competitions forum, three new ReMixing-related subforums, some name changes, the deletion of UnModerated (!) and the addition of Off-Topic. The new forums are sleeker and faster than they were before, so now's a great time to sign up and start posting if you haven't already!
[06:42] Ah-ha! Forum shenanigans are not all we have for you on our last show. MAGFest 5 rocked hard and we were there. The theme could perhaps be best defined as "community healing" with djpretzel and virt of VGMix attending each other's panels and sitting at the bar together. Jiggles McPuff hooked us up with the audio from the OCReMix panel we did (with djpretzel and Liontamer), so you're going to hear that next! Feel free to download our PowerPoint presentation as you listen.
[07:48] Oh yeah, we've got loads of photos too, viewable at our very own VGDJ photo album.
[12:46] OverClocked ReMix Panel at MAGFest! We explain to the audience the basics of OCR (and djpretzel apoligizes for Bad Tuna). Which, of course, means...
[16:39] ReMix Medley! We created a modified and expanded medley for the MAGfest folks, showcasing 15 ReMixes side by side with their original tunes. Dublin Delight was a crowdpleaser ;) Download the medley here.
[30:30] More about OCR and the Community. We talk about the forums, what the earlier days of OCR were like, site projects/ReMix albums, meetups, Chipamp, VGDJ, and much more. This, of course, leads to OverLooked ReMix, and the inevitable...
[53:06] OverLooked ReMix Medley! Though we could not coax Larry into doing a live rendition of Toyota Disco, the audience loved this section - including several notable OLR submitters, such as the legendary Shael Riley. Pick up the OLR medley here.
[55:10] Trivia Contest. djpretzel was able to bring lots of tshirts to sell at MAGFest, so we thought giving some away as part of a video game trivia contest would be cool. Everyone in the audience was allowed to participate. Fun!
[63:25] Name That Tune! What do you do when you have a full room of video game music nerds from four different communities? Why, pit them against each other in a battle of nostalgia to see who can recognize the most VG tunes. The competitors were virt (VGMix), Rama (ThaSauce/OCR), JoeCam (OneUp Studios), and Paragon (The Shizz) and while it was close, virt managed to edge 'em out. Too bad no one got that Shining Force track except SnappleMan.
[73:05] And that about wraps it up. We wish you all could have been there too; even though there were dozens of people from OCR, that's still not enough! Let's shoot for more next year.
[73:34] Russian ReMix Roulette: Well, we didn't have any reports or ReViews this show, but it just wouldn't be VGDJ without the ol' RRR. We kept it relatively sane and actually ended up with a rather recent song anyway, from our good friend Dhsu: 'Koopa vs. Kefka' from Super Mario World. Note: This was part of the free ReMix album "Bad Dudes EP". Check it out.
[81:08] A slick mix, indeed - but it's not time to close out *just yet*. You may remember waaaay back when zircon first joined the show, we had a segment making fun of the names of various people in the community. Kevin Sisk (aka debeerguy007) was one of them, becoming "dequeerguy". When he heard that, he swore he would get back at us somehow... and he finally did!
[82:31] Debeerguy's Revenge Against the Dequeerguy Statement (tm). Burrrrrn! Remind us not to get on Kevin's bad side again. ;) You can listen to the full length clip he recorded right here.
[85:50] Well, now that we've had our nearly one and a half hours of fun, it's time to clear the tables, turn out the lights, lock the doors, and say goodbye. It's been real good, folks, and you all have been awesome to us. A special thank-you goes to our minihosts, who added that extra flava to just about every show. Here's a little something for you three! And for everyone else, remember, you can still visit us on IRC (irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj), download old episodes, browse our photo album, email us (vgdjpodcast@gmail.com) and even leave use voicemails - though they won't get played anywhere.
[89:03] As we sign off for the last time, there's one more gift we wanted to impart to everyone listening - the full version of our ReMix collaboration, "Deliverance of the Heart", which will be on the FF7 ReMix album. Enjoy... we'll miss you guys :(
[94:41] VOICEMAIL: Happy New Year guy, Russian agent guy, belthesar, DJAnubis, SonikBoom, our mother (?!), Mewtation, Stuka, Hemophiliac, and LAOS.

VGDJ: Shownotes #065

[00:00] Sometimes even VGDJ hosts like to call the 1-800 number! Whadda ya know...
[00:05] This week's intro is a medley of zircon's true Mario goodness and some guy (Rama?) who left us a two-minute voicemail in which he sang the entire song in a loop. The things you people do to be on this show- mah goodness!
[00:59] Pixietricks wows audiences with her operatic introduction this week. XD But that's not all... We're going to have a guest on this week's show- one of the (GASP) female sex? Guess you'll just have to wait and find out whooooo.
[01:55] The ever present contact info: www.vgdj.net, 1-800-990-VGDJ, vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, and irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj.
[03:57] Most importantly, VGDJ needs your votes at PodcastAlley!!! Doing well so far this month, but it's be great if we could push into the top 10. Alls you gotta do is click here and give us some love.
[03:19] ZOMG NEW FEATURE!!! Out in the wilderness without your computer? Too busy playing video games to download the latest show? Well, have no fear, because now we have "VGDJ on the go!" Just call: 1-718-977-5925. There will be a menu that gives you the option to select our latest show, the one before that, choose your own, or leave us a voicemail. (But yes, you can still call the normal 1-800-990-VGDJ number for voicemails as well.) Thanks to Les over at LES.NET voip services for this awesome new feature! It may take a little while to set up, but until then, you can hear our shows streaming at that number!
[05:42] Now now, don't be alarmed. We've decided to fudge around a bit with the show format in order to keep things fresh and interesting for our more casual listener base. Chillax! You'll still be hearing from Rama, Cyan_Ide, and DrumUltimA... Just not on a weekly basis, necessarily. (We still heart you guys!)
[06:39] On that note, we'd like your feedback on VGDJ; it's easy. Just take this brief, 15-question survey! It won't take long at all, and will give yours truly hosts a better idea of the VGDJ listener base, as well as help us improve the show by your own standards! ^-^ We were giving away free buttons before to people who took it (courtesy of Logan Erikson), but we got way more responses than we thought. Oops! You can still get the chance at winning an OCR or VGDJ t-shirt though.
[08:26] ReMix Review: Megan Man 2: 'Too Hot For Heatman' by AeroZ... Swedish remixer AeroZ has sent us a clip describing his mix! Lucky us. It's an energetic, quirky little electronic piece, clocking in at 3 minutes. Great debut!
[12:41] ReMix Review: Cave Story: 'Moon Rhapsody' by DrumUltimA ... FINALLY! Doug's remix, which was accepted over a month and a half ago, has finally been posted. One of the most sophisticated arrangements ocremix has seen to date, this electronic piece also features the live talent of Doug on flute and his mother on violin! If one thing's for sure, though, Moon Rhapsody is definitely not a piece of Dougley Dougley doo doo... >:D
[17:05] Compo Report: Chad brings us the low down on FLMC4, the latest round of the Fruity Loops Music Competition! And teh winnar? Teh winnar is Ghetto Lee Lewis, with his track "Brokeback Kitty." (Hahahahaha!) So now you get to hear a clip!
[22:10] SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEEEEEW! And who is this lovely female? Why, it's Caramella! (a.k.a. Larry "Liontamer" Oji... ocremix judge, djpretzel slave of love, and host of the former video game music radio show VG FREQUENCY.) Larry spills his guts about how he got interested in the vg music community... and gets pwned by his lady, Paige! See? We didn't lie to you guys... We really DID have a female guest on the show. :D We test his knowledge of the ocremix site projects, hear his choice of an old sk3wl remix from Super Metroid: Relics of the Chozo, and wrap it up with a clip from his infamous Gran Turismo olremix, "Toyota Disco." Thanks for coming on the show!
[42:56] Liontamer go down da hooooooole...
[43:08] Russian ReMix Roulette: What's this? No weird Russian ReMix Roulette theme this week? This may very well be the most normal zircon and pixietricks have ever been during this portion of the show. o_O And whadda we got? A verrrrry old school remix from Sonic Crackers: 'Dirty Beta', by fellow judge Malcos!
[49:43] Sooo... What's new? Well, zircon's still coming down from the high of his multiple victories in the 2006 JPF Music Awards, where he won first and third place in the "Best Techno Song" category, and also "Best Techno Album" of the year! Yea!!! The original album, Impulse Prime, can be found at his CDBaby page. But remember, the special VGDJ discount offer still stands! Just go here to order your digital copy!
[50:10] A big-booty'ed pixietricks premiers her role of Barbarina in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" this weekend! Sucks to you all for not coming to see her. ;_;
[50:47] The Sonic 3 & Knuckles ReMix album, "Project: Chaos", is out! Download it here. Oh, and... NEXT WEEK'S SHOW IS A THANKSGIVING DAY VIDEOCAST!
[52:09] Fin. Don't be strangers during the week! www.vgdj.net, 1-800-990-VGDJ, the new 1-718-977-5925, vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, and irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj.
[54:27] VOICEMAIL: Thanks to Abadoss, whining guy, somebody teasing LAOS, and philosopher dude for your calls!!!
[57:17] [stinger]

VGDJ: Shownotes #064

[00:00] Surprisingly, this was one of the few comments we received on the subject (via voicemail, anyway!)
[01:02] Do we... sound familiar to anyone? A cookie to anyone who gets it. ;)
[01:57] Welcome Herman, our newest host. He's still working on becoming more articulate, but we think he's got potential.
[02:55] Didn't catch our contact info? Here it is again; 1-800-990-VGDJ is the voicemail, vgdjpodcast@gmail.com is our email/Paypal donation account, irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj is our IRC chat, and right here is our lovely thread.
[04:05] You geeky guys and gals have been doing a great job so far with the PodcastAlley votes, but we need a little more of an "oomph" to hit the top 10. It's fast and easy, so there's no reason not to! Just click here.
[05:10] Last week, zircon claimed multiple victories at the 2006 JPF Music Awards, smacking up the competition in "Best Techno Song" and "Best Techno Album" categories. Yea!!! You can check out the album (more physical copies soon) at its CDBaby page and listen to samples there. But we wouldn't just shameless advertise to y'all - no sir-ee. zircon has put out a special promo page for VGDJ listeners where you can get the CD in digital form for a significantly reduced price. Simply visit this link! Just don't give it out to any non-VGDJ listeners, please.
[08:43] The Rama Report: A new video game music concert feat. Yasunori Mitsuda? Yes please. The 2006 Ar Halloween ReMix contest is now over. A group of cross-community ReMixers including Mustin, Mazedude, zyko, and Dhsu have created a Bad Dudes remix album for everyone to enjoy (though it doesn't have to do with the game "Bad Dudes"). Lastly, DETHKLOK will be a playable track in the upcoming game Guitar Hero II.
[13:33] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy X 'Via' by pixietricks, Tepid, and The Orichalcon ... It might have taken awhile to be properly judged and posted, but it sure was worth the wait. This three-way heavy hitting collab is a great mix of acoustic, electronic, and vocal elements that really showcases the individual talents of the mixers involved. Tepid sent in a clip for us to tell a little more about it, too!
[19:01] ReMix Review: Mega Man X 'Light in the Fortress' by housethegrate ... We were just about ready to only have one review on this week's show, so seeing this posted was a pleasant surprise! Guitar + synth + prodigous soloing always works for us.
[22:25] Compo Report: CMC2, PRC80, FLMC4, ARHRC2k6, and TOMCX1.
[27:04] Meetup Report: Back to back reports! YEA! NYC Meetup 2k6, Western Prairie Canada, and Winnipeg!
[30:23] Russian ReMix Roulette: Swords, lords, tapeworms, and N-Sync are all involved this week on the RRR, so you know it's gotta be good. Though zircon's pick was "close", pixietricks guessed it right with a FIVE; Simona and N-Joy's collaboration 'Marble Pack Edit' from the game Stormlord. More love to obscure games please. And bad puns.
[39:06] As you guys may have guessed by her diminished activity in our chat, Ms. Pixie has been working extra hard as of late. Most notably, she's playing Barbarina in the opera "The Marriage of Figaro" which opens next week. Hopefully, we'll still be able to do a show together, but there are only 24 hours in a day so we'll have to see what's up. On the bright side, there's always Herman, right? :)
[41:01] El fin de show. (zircon edit: I think that's how you say it) As you listen to our voicemails and stinger, feel free to throw down a vote or look at our photo album. Till next week!
[42:54] VOICEMAIL: Gimgak, soviet VGDJ listener, Baconman (?) 42 aka Galvanoob (??), Shiver McTimbers, AHHH!!!, Xiao Xiao Neo, and the ever-present anonymous caller.
[47:49] [stinger]

VGDJ: Shownotes #063

[00:00] We seem to be getting a lot of singing voicemails lately... perhaps they were inspired by zircon's beautiful stinger on 062...?
[01:03] YAY pixietricks is back on the show! As much fun as the whole two-male format thing is, we think male-female sort of works a little better.
[01:40] Betcha didn't see that one coming! :D
[02:58] This may not be the last abbreviated show we have to do 'cause of school and stuff, but fear not - we'll do our best to keep you hooked up with all the latest OCR community news.
[04:39] Our OCR thread and Cafepress store might be cool, but what we really need IS YOUR VOTES AT PODCASTALLEY.COM! It's a new month, so your votes have been reset. It's soooo easy, but so helpful to us.
[06:13] ReMix Review: Donkey Kong Land 'Revisiting the Ruins' by Patrick Burns ... Ahh, smooth jazz. It's always good to see new artists submitting to OCR, but it's even better when they make ReMixes in genres that aren't so common on the site. Great ambience and sound effects, relaxing guitar, groovin' drums. Recommended!
[08:18] ReMix Review: Chrono Cross 'People Seized With Trance' by ambient ... However you want to pronounce his name, ambient doesn't play around. He's been steadily improving since his first mix on the site and we think this is his most refined work to date.
[11:24] Our Halloween Cosplay Contest has ended! You can check out the winning costumes in our photo album. The winners (in no particular order) were Gimgak (dressed as Mario), Tom "BlackMage" Hamilton as a Shyguy, and Andrew Anderson as Mr. Game and Watch. Congratulations guys!
[14:17] Russian ReMix Roulette: Though there's lots of new stuff every week at OverClocked ReMix, there's always fun to be had in looking through its history, and that's what the RRR is all about! zircon nerds out for the second week in a row in order to roll the die, which ended up on JigginJonT's most excellent 'Silent Progression (remastered)' mix from F-Zero. Solid.
[21:00] VGDJ has amassed a pretty varied group of listeners. From doctors to truck drivers, kids to adults, and everything in between. One of our newest fans, SonikBoom, has generously provided hosting for re-encoded MP4 versions of our two videocasts; you can check those out right here. There's also our favorite M@DM@X who left a nice personal message for pixie. Someone's got a cruuush (I'm looking at you, Jill!)
[22:51] Amazing! We actually kept the show at less than 40 minutes in length. We really did want to do a full one, but between opera rehearsals, recording sessions, papers, and midterms, well, we did the best we could. Anyway, see ya next time, and please please please please VOTE for us at Podcast Alley! Don't let us drop any lower! ;_;
[26:10] VOICEMAIL: dish, Steve, Dave (Lawyer Distribution Network), Cameron, Kento's sister (rofl), Abadoss, Sgt Rama.
[30:04] [stinger]

Background music used in Episode 063, in order of appearance:

- Revenge of Shinobi 'Consent' by djpretzel
- Final Doom 'Milagro Del Demonio' by The Orichalcon
- Secret of Mana 'Time in the CloudsDX' by Kailem
- Megaman 2 'Duck and Cover' by Star Salzman
- Double Dragon 2 'Twin Blood' by Sixto Sounds
- Tetris 'McVaffe Quasi UltiMix' by McVaffe
- Secret of Mana 'Beyond Comprehension' by McNoods
- Street Fighter 2 'Home at Last (Dhalism Ending)' by Malcos

VGDJ: Shownotes #062

[00:00] Victory! 142 experience. 544 gold. zircon's level up!
[01:05] It started as a show like any other show, until...
[01:22] WTF Fusion2004??? Ah well. Da pixietricks be at de rehearsals this week, so rather than cancel the show, we found an old friend to sub in. And whatnot. ;)
[02:04] For not having been on the show for about 59 episodes, Fusion's not too rusty on our contact info! Call us up at 1-800-990-VGDJ to leave a voicemail, check out our OCR thread and vote for us at podcastalley.
[03:37] The Rama Report: Did anyone really notice Rama was on vacation...? Oh well, good to have him back! Shael Riley has released an audio bootleg of his Boston show at The Western Front. ReMixer and master shredder housethegrate is releasing an album and has put the call out to OCR to help with artwork. Keep updated on more community news at ThaSauce.net!
[05:30] Fusion2004 reveals the dark secrets behind the inner workings of ThaSauce and how stuff really gets done when Rama's involved.
[07:20] ReMix Review: Super Mario Brothers 'Moisturor' by ilp0 ... It's odd that SMB, despite being the most popular game of all time, isn't even in the top three most ReMixed games. That being said, relative newcomer ilp0 has given it the attention it deserves with a smooth, instrumental rock ReMix of the aquatic level theme. Good stuff.
[09:35] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy 10 'How Much Longer' by tekcoh_top ... Perhaps one of the most surprising first submissions to hit OCR in recent times, tekcoh_top (pot hocket) brings us a very emotional classical guitar version of the immortal "Suteki Da Ne" from FF10, with a bit of FF7 tunage mixed in. We both were diggin' it, and while pixietricks wasn't here, she was a preeeetty big fan when this hit the panel as well. Mr. Lee was also kind enough to send in a voice clip talking about himself and the mix, to give a little bit of background. Thanks bro!
[13:53] Between VGDJ, Ormgas, and OCR itself, you might think that there are enough ways to grab all your favorite video game music rearrangements. We respectfully disagree. Forum member CCMods has essentially completed a simple Java app he calls the OCReMix Jukebox that lets you easily browse any posted ReMix and instantly stream it right from the app. Bandwidth and ad revenue concerns aside, we think it's a pretty cool idea - especially for people on slower connections or with smaller hard drives, as the program doesn't keep the music on your drive once it's played.
[16:08] Compo Report: Anime Remix, FLMC, TOMCX, PRC, CMC, and CMC2.
[18:56] Our voicemails just keep getting weirder and weirder.
[19:05] It looks like Shael Riley is just up to no good. First, he's releasing bootlegs of his own music, now he's just waltzing into the MAGfest 5 concert lineup?! Who does he think he is, some sort of big shot nerdcore musician? .. oh wait. Seriously though, congrats Shael and keep it up :)
[21:54] Meetup Report: HI DOUG WELCOME BACK DOUG! There is but one meetup this week of note, that being the Western Prairie/Canada meet. Umm more meetups plz.
[23:45] Russian ReMix Roulette: zircon and Fusion might not have any dice to speak of, but does that stop them? NO! The powers of dork are activated and an... improvised solution is developed to avoid disaster. Surprisingly, Fusion's choice of mix was selected, despite its somewhat lame title; MIDIMan's 'MegaDance Mix 2002' from Super Metroid.
[33:01] Just a quick review of the contest we started last week for y'all. We're asking for cosplays of video game characters that were created for this Halloween (so no pictures from old cons). Send us pics to vgdjpodcast@gmail.com by November 1st and we'll be sending out prizes to the three entries we feel were the best.
[35:21] Fusion2004 discusses the age old question you've ALL been asking yourselves since the beginning of this show - why his name is still "Fusion2004" rather than "Fusion2006".
[39:51] That's a wrap! Hope everyone enjoyed the presence of a guest host for the second week in a row. We (zircon & pixie) would like to thank Mark for filling in at the last minute and encourage everyone to check out his radio show; if you're on irc.enterthegame.com, just go to #FusionRadio. And while you're on EntertheGame you can also visit our chat, #vgdj.
[41:28] VOICEMAIL: Salty (not drunk), Kento, Salty (drunk), sinclair44, Salty (drunk... again), creepy contest winner guy, "O" guy, Salty (not drunk - just kidding!), creepy cooking guy, pixietricks, Kento again, Salty (very drunk), unintelligible guy, and Mad Max.
[45:46] [stinger]

BACKGROUND MUSIC used in Episode 062, in the order that it appeared:

- Zelda 3 'Aghanim's Curse' by chthonic
- "Descent" by Rellik
- "The Silent Stones" by Tyler Heath
