VGDJ: Shownotes #070

[00:40] In the midst of the Philly meetup, Brushfire calls a very important press conference to address some serious issues (and set up numerous Internet meme references.)
[02:20] Wait, you didn't really think he quit, did you?!
[02:40] "Professor zircon" discusses the perks of teaching video game audio.
[03:10] Post-meetup analysis: Philly '09, baby! Shame on any of you who didn't come!
[04:22] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy VII "Full of Hope" by Nutritious. Mr. Justin "Nutritious" Medford impresses us greatly with his slew of progressively-more-awesome ReMixes, the latest being this orchestral gem which draws from the Final Fantasy IV main theme too!
[06:40] ReMix Review: Kirby: Canvas Curse "I Want You Inside Me" by halc. Despite the title being ripped from the punchline of a VGCats strip, we can't help but enjoy this chiptune-flavored electronica mix.
[09:07] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy X "Judgement" by Marc Junker. Sir Junker marks the third Mark (Marc) on our site, joining the ranks of Mark Vera and Marc Star. His debut orchestral mix fell a little short of our expectations (no pun intended) but was a solid first foray nonetheless.
[11:31] ReMix Review: Castlevania II "The Accursed Seal" by Sixto Sounds. It's easy to make a hit when you combine metal and Konami soundtracks, but when it's Sixto and Castlevania, it's just impossible to go wrong. The debate rages on as to whether Juan is the same person as zircon... or GrayLightning.
[14:15] ReMix Review: Legend ofd Zelda: A Link to the Past "Dark World Ballad" by Cliff Hooper, effinjerk. Oh submitting OC ReMixers, why do your mixer handles taunt us so? This one's a stellar live piano/acoustic guitar duet courtesy of two real audio and gaming professionals.
[17:22] Community Happenings! Brushfire heads up our CommHapps for this week, mangling McVaffe's name but nonetheless delivering the latest in OCR news:

* McVaffe releases a free, 22-track album of original music inspired by classic role-playing games
* The OCR Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Tournament progresses with two contestants eliminates and djpretzel in the lead
* OneUp Studios member JoeCam releases the incomplete KK Setlist project, originally intended to be a remix album for the game Animal Crossing

[20:23] OCRtist Spotlight: zircon and pixietricks are joined post-Philly-meetup by Jose E. Felix, better known to us as Jose the Bronx Rican! Topics range from how one acquires a "sick flow", as it were, Jose's mad video editing skills and how OCR's most Bronxian mixer got his start.
[30:52] Russisan ReMix Roulette: Group roulette!!! Your intrepid hosts are swarmed by rabid, hamburger-fueled meetup goers for the biggest (and probably goofiest) RRR yet. This show's random, winning ReMix: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past "Darkworld Jazz" by Gux.
[37:55] Brush's impending wisdom tooth surgery leads to an interesting conversation about proper post-op dental hygiene, proper diet, prescription-drug loopiness and the only TV show to cure a bad case of pain. See y'all next week - don't forget to call us, too! 1-VGDJ-64-KBIT
[41:02] Voicemails: Pizza guy, Oinkness, Non-American Stone Contracting (lol!), and Kaleb a.k.a. The Biznut
[42:20] Stinger: "Mr. Wizard"

Background music used in this episode:

- Breath of Fire III 'Casually' (OST)
- Breath of Fire 'Save Your Game (Club Mix 2002)' by Ghetto Lee Lewis
- Streets of Rage II 'BadassPosse' by McVaffe
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix 'Thank You, Dee Jay' by Jose the Bronx Rican (OST)
- Revenge of Shinobi 'Corner of Sunset and Keys' by Jose the Bronx Rican
- BlazBlue 'Rebellion (Ragna)' (OST)
- Lion King (Video Game) 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'

VGDJ: Shownotes #069

[00:00] In the beginning, there was the beginning of the show.
[00:39] zirc starts us off with our new date and showtime announcement.
[01:14] pixie gives us a lesson in Latin prefixes.
[01:42] Remix Review: Reset Generation "Trix" by Tepid, second place winner in the Reset Generation remix contest. Takes a nod from Daft Punk and other Euro House artists.
[03:51] Remix Review: Pokemon Crystal "14.5 West Coast Radio (EXPN Card Required)" by Protodome. A freshman remix, this song is sugary sweet and synthpop-ish.
[06:31] Remix Review: Lost Odyssey "Ubon Orih, Latrom Mieht" by Skrypnyk and Another Soundscape. A palindrome for "The Immortal Hironobu." Anso and Skrypnyk take turns switching up the percussion.
[08:35] Brushfire has a not so interesting story of how Nobuo Uematsu likes ping pong, and then professes that we are children of the internet.
[09:30] Remix Review: Vectorman "Overflow" by Beatdrop. A face punching remix by the former judge, this mix is cold bro. Remix #1900 does not disappoint.
[11:46] A very Nutritious bumper.
[11:57] Community Happenings, with zircon and pixietricks. The Philly meet up is all up ins. Alliteration abounds as zircon tells us about Penny Arcade Expo, and how someone let H1N1 go inside. Our thoughts are with Another Soundscape as he recovers from the Swine that "Flew..."
[14:57] Moooo...?
[15:00] OCRTist Spotlight: This week Brushfire interviews Shariq "DarkeSword" Ansari. Topics included his first mix, Gundam Wing 'Heavy Arms (Let Me Lift This Load)' , his soft spot for the Sonic Hedgehog fellow, amounts of Sentai watched, and why he works without Robins and Batgirls on mixes. DarkeSword's only collab, Sonic the Hedgehog "Metamorphic Rock" (with Sixto Sounds), makes an appearance. He reveals his favorite game, and we give a shout out to the remix project he directed, Kirby's Adventure: Rise of the Star. Wrapping things up with Kirby's Adventure "Theme of the Great Ace"!
[23:26] BOO-DING!! The return of the Russian Remix Roulette, by popular request... and shun. Brushfire rolls the die and GaMeBoX' mix "The Fifth Season" from Mega Man 2 comes out the winner.
[30:16] Triple fail on the hosts part, as zirc and pixie merge into one sentient being.
[30:45] Full cast sighs, and we start wrapping up. We then talk about zircon (and pixie)'s official FL Studio 9 demo song, "Just Hold On". And then we offend everyone on the planet. GOOD TIMES!!
[33:30] Have some contact info. Send us an email at vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, call and leave a voicemail (1-VGDJ-64-KBIT, or on Skype, vgdjpodcast), or pop in our OCR thread.
[34:20] Brushfire makes a movie reference, and then everyone joins in. "Gooooooooood Byyyyyyyyyyye..."
[34:45] Voicemail: This guy missed us so.
[34:58] "Another Soundscape" stinger from beyond the moon, and Game BAWKS!!

VGDJ: Shownotes #068

[00:00] It's VGDJ: The Next Generation! Starring Patrick Hubbard. This isn't our new intro, though...
[00:43] ... this is! Props to zircon for putting it together.
[01:23] For the first time in over two and a half years, zircon and pixietricks are back, and they're joined by a THIRD host, Brushfire (a.k.a. David Hubbard!) The podcast is getting a format makeover, too. YOU READY?!
[04:50] ReMix Review: Reset Generation "Kid Malicious" by Rayza. Winner of the Reset Generation Remix Contest, sponsored by OC ReMix and Nokia. Trance, house, breakbeat and a wonderful blend of new and retro.
[07:55] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy IV "Eminence Grise" by OA and DragonAvenger. A cut from the recent Final Fantasy IV remix project, Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption. Creepy atmospheres and vocals that make pixietricks go insane. What more reason do you need to listen?
[10:20] ReMix Review: Mega Man 2 "Wily's Requiem" by Nekofrog. Does the world have enough remixes of Wily's Castle, Stage 1? We don't think so! METULLLLLL \m/
[13:00] ReMix Review: Doom 2 "Silent Healer" by Mazedude. zircon hates on the source tune, but can't hold back the love for this twisted, demonic blend of jazz and electronica.
[15:26] ReMix Review: Pilotwings "Fly" by Palpable. Do you think 'Fight Club' was a typo for 'Flight Club'? We don't know, but Palp bossa-DNB hybrid certainly brightens the atmosphere of this week's review section. (Source for the Paul McCartney/Pilotwings story)
[18:23] ReMix Review: Chrono Trigger "BAMF" by Dhsu and Mustin. Phat beats and big synths bring the classic Magus source into the 21st century. Is it just us, or would this sound awesome with some freestyle rap on top?
[21:19] Game Flames with Brushfire! A recurring segment on the new VGDJ that features Brushfire's thoughts on one game a week... for better or worse. This week, it's Red Faction: Guerilla, featuring unscalable mountains...
[24:16] Community Happenings! In the place of our previous three separate reports, we're condensing VGM community news into a more manageable segment featuring zircon and pixie. This week, we have...

* The Reset Generation Remix Contest, which recently ended
* Chronotorius, a new album of Chrono Trigger remixes by the Bad Dudes
* The OCR Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix tournament (say that three times fast)

[30:26] OCRtist Spotlight: Brushfire interviews ReMixer, judge and project director OA (Andrew Luers). Topics include the recent massive album project Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption, The Scuba Divers, life as a judge, and OA's favorite video game of all time!
[36:11] JudgeQuote - "Larry 'Liontamer' Oji" shares his provocative opinions on a "Zeal" remix.
[36:57] And our first episode of VGDJ: The Next Generation comes to a gradual close! zircon and pixie fawn over Brushfire's cats, while also telling the world about their recent OCR-powered marriage. Check out pictures of the wedding and reception here!
[40:35] Drop us a line why doncha! Send us an email, call and leave a voicemail (1-VGDJ-64-KBIT, or on Skype, vgdjpodcast), or pop in our OCR thread.
[42:03] Voicemails: Abadoss, Brushfire and Mystery Plane Guy
[42:36] Stinger: "Squeaky Chair RMX (In Da Club Mix)"

Background music used in this episode:

Hitman: Codename 47 - Contract Cleaner
Final Fantasy XI Online - Battling Despair at Dawn
Live A Live - Giant Robot Bonanza
Faxandu - Ce pays me rend mauvais

VGDJ: Shownotes #067

[00:00] The future of VGDJ is in voice synthesizers. Srsly.
[01:13] Wee! We're back on the airwaves... or... inter-waves. And we remembered how to use our mics too!
[01:46] ...though, unfortunately, as you may have read in our earlier news post, this will be but a brief comeback. Episode 067 is our final episode. Nuuuu! But while this is our last official episode, who knows what the future holds? Maybe we'll pop back in sometime for a special occasion. And of course, we're not disappearing off the face of the Earth; you can still talk to use anytime on IRC!
[04:54] Quite a bit has happened in the land of OCReMix since our last show - most notably, vBulletin is now online! With that came numerous forum changes, such as the addition of a Competitions forum, three new ReMixing-related subforums, some name changes, the deletion of UnModerated (!) and the addition of Off-Topic. The new forums are sleeker and faster than they were before, so now's a great time to sign up and start posting if you haven't already!
[06:42] Ah-ha! Forum shenanigans are not all we have for you on our last show. MAGFest 5 rocked hard and we were there. The theme could perhaps be best defined as "community healing" with djpretzel and virt of VGMix attending each other's panels and sitting at the bar together. Jiggles McPuff hooked us up with the audio from the OCReMix panel we did (with djpretzel and Liontamer), so you're going to hear that next! Feel free to download our PowerPoint presentation as you listen.
[07:48] Oh yeah, we've got loads of photos too, viewable at our very own VGDJ photo album.
[12:46] OverClocked ReMix Panel at MAGFest! We explain to the audience the basics of OCR (and djpretzel apoligizes for Bad Tuna). Which, of course, means...
[16:39] ReMix Medley! We created a modified and expanded medley for the MAGfest folks, showcasing 15 ReMixes side by side with their original tunes. Dublin Delight was a crowdpleaser ;) Download the medley here.
[30:30] More about OCR and the Community. We talk about the forums, what the earlier days of OCR were like, site projects/ReMix albums, meetups, Chipamp, VGDJ, and much more. This, of course, leads to OverLooked ReMix, and the inevitable...
[53:06] OverLooked ReMix Medley! Though we could not coax Larry into doing a live rendition of Toyota Disco, the audience loved this section - including several notable OLR submitters, such as the legendary Shael Riley. Pick up the OLR medley here.
[55:10] Trivia Contest. djpretzel was able to bring lots of tshirts to sell at MAGFest, so we thought giving some away as part of a video game trivia contest would be cool. Everyone in the audience was allowed to participate. Fun!
[63:25] Name That Tune! What do you do when you have a full room of video game music nerds from four different communities? Why, pit them against each other in a battle of nostalgia to see who can recognize the most VG tunes. The competitors were virt (VGMix), Rama (ThaSauce/OCR), JoeCam (OneUp Studios), and Paragon (The Shizz) and while it was close, virt managed to edge 'em out. Too bad no one got that Shining Force track except SnappleMan.
[73:05] And that about wraps it up. We wish you all could have been there too; even though there were dozens of people from OCR, that's still not enough! Let's shoot for more next year.
[73:34] Russian ReMix Roulette: Well, we didn't have any reports or ReViews this show, but it just wouldn't be VGDJ without the ol' RRR. We kept it relatively sane and actually ended up with a rather recent song anyway, from our good friend Dhsu: 'Koopa vs. Kefka' from Super Mario World. Note: This was part of the free ReMix album "Bad Dudes EP". Check it out.
[81:08] A slick mix, indeed - but it's not time to close out *just yet*. You may remember waaaay back when zircon first joined the show, we had a segment making fun of the names of various people in the community. Kevin Sisk (aka debeerguy007) was one of them, becoming "dequeerguy". When he heard that, he swore he would get back at us somehow... and he finally did!
[82:31] Debeerguy's Revenge Against the Dequeerguy Statement (tm). Burrrrrn! Remind us not to get on Kevin's bad side again. ;) You can listen to the full length clip he recorded right here.
[85:50] Well, now that we've had our nearly one and a half hours of fun, it's time to clear the tables, turn out the lights, lock the doors, and say goodbye. It's been real good, folks, and you all have been awesome to us. A special thank-you goes to our minihosts, who added that extra flava to just about every show. Here's a little something for you three! And for everyone else, remember, you can still visit us on IRC (irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj), download old episodes, browse our photo album, email us (vgdjpodcast@gmail.com) and even leave use voicemails - though they won't get played anywhere.
[89:03] As we sign off for the last time, there's one more gift we wanted to impart to everyone listening - the full version of our ReMix collaboration, "Deliverance of the Heart", which will be on the FF7 ReMix album. Enjoy... we'll miss you guys :(
[94:41] VOICEMAIL: Happy New Year guy, Russian agent guy, belthesar, DJAnubis, SonikBoom, our mother (...?!), Mewtation, Stuka, Hemophiliac, and LAOS.
[99:04] [stinger]

VGDJ: Shownotes #065

[00:00] Sometimes even VGDJ hosts like to call the 1-800 number! Whadda ya know...
[00:05] This week's intro is a medley of zircon's true Mario goodness and some guy (Rama?) who left us a two-minute voicemail in which he sang the entire song in a loop. The things you people do to be on this show- mah goodness!
[00:59] Pixietricks wows audiences with her operatic introduction this week. XD But that's not all... We're going to have a guest on this week's show- one of the (GASP) female sex? Guess you'll just have to wait and find out whooooo.
[01:55] The ever present contact info: www.vgdj.net, 1-800-990-VGDJ, vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, and irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj.
[03:57] Most importantly, VGDJ needs your votes at PodcastAlley!!! Doing well so far this month, but it's be great if we could push into the top 10. Alls you gotta do is click here and give us some love.
[03:19] ZOMG NEW FEATURE!!! Out in the wilderness without your computer? Too busy playing video games to download the latest show? Well, have no fear, because now we have "VGDJ on the go!" Just call: 1-718-977-5925. There will be a menu that gives you the option to select our latest show, the one before that, choose your own, or leave us a voicemail. (But yes, you can still call the normal 1-800-990-VGDJ number for voicemails as well.) Thanks to Les over at LES.NET voip services for this awesome new feature! It may take a little while to set up, but until then, you can hear our shows streaming at that number!
[05:42] Now now, don't be alarmed. We've decided to fudge around a bit with the show format in order to keep things fresh and interesting for our more casual listener base. Chillax! You'll still be hearing from Rama, Cyan_Ide, and DrumUltimA... Just not on a weekly basis, necessarily. (We still heart you guys!)
[06:39] On that note, we'd like your feedback on VGDJ; it's easy. Just take this brief, 15-question survey! It won't take long at all, and will give yours truly hosts a better idea of the VGDJ listener base, as well as help us improve the show by your own standards! ^-^ We were giving away free buttons before to people who took it (courtesy of Logan Erikson), but we got way more responses than we thought. Oops! You can still get the chance at winning an OCR or VGDJ t-shirt though.
[08:26] ReMix Review: Megan Man 2: 'Too Hot For Heatman' by AeroZ... Swedish remixer AeroZ has sent us a clip describing his mix! Lucky us. It's an energetic, quirky little electronic piece, clocking in at 3 minutes. Great debut!
[12:41] ReMix Review: Cave Story: 'Moon Rhapsody' by DrumUltimA ... FINALLY! Doug's remix, which was accepted over a month and a half ago, has finally been posted. One of the most sophisticated arrangements ocremix has seen to date, this electronic piece also features the live talent of Doug on flute and his mother on violin! If one thing's for sure, though, Moon Rhapsody is definitely not a piece of Dougley Dougley doo doo... >:D
[17:05] Compo Report: Chad brings us the low down on FLMC4, the latest round of the Fruity Loops Music Competition! And teh winnar? Teh winnar is Ghetto Lee Lewis, with his track "Brokeback Kitty." (Hahahahaha!) So now you get to hear a clip!
[22:10] SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEEEEEW! And who is this lovely female? Why, it's Caramella! (a.k.a. Larry "Liontamer" Oji... ocremix judge, djpretzel slave of love, and host of the former video game music radio show VG FREQUENCY.) Larry spills his guts about how he got interested in the vg music community... and gets pwned by his lady, Paige! See? We didn't lie to you guys... We really DID have a female guest on the show. :D We test his knowledge of the ocremix site projects, hear his choice of an old sk3wl remix from Super Metroid: Relics of the Chozo, and wrap it up with a clip from his infamous Gran Turismo olremix, "Toyota Disco." Thanks for coming on the show!
[42:56] Liontamer go down da hooooooole...
[43:08] Russian ReMix Roulette: What's this? No weird Russian ReMix Roulette theme this week? This may very well be the most normal zircon and pixietricks have ever been during this portion of the show. o_O And whadda we got? A verrrrry old school remix from Sonic Crackers: 'Dirty Beta', by fellow judge Malcos!
[49:43] Sooo... What's new? Well, zircon's still coming down from the high of his multiple victories in the 2006 JPF Music Awards, where he won first and third place in the "Best Techno Song" category, and also "Best Techno Album" of the year! Yea!!! The original album, Impulse Prime, can be found at his CDBaby page. But remember, the special VGDJ discount offer still stands! Just go here to order your digital copy!
[50:10] A big-booty'ed pixietricks premiers her role of Barbarina in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" this weekend! Sucks to you all for not coming to see her. ;_;
[50:47] The Sonic 3 & Knuckles ReMix album, "Project: Chaos", is out! Download it here. Oh, and... NEXT WEEK'S SHOW IS A THANKSGIVING DAY VIDEOCAST!
[52:09] Fin. Don't be strangers during the week! www.vgdj.net, 1-800-990-VGDJ, the new 1-718-977-5925, vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, and irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj.
[54:27] VOICEMAIL: Thanks to Abadoss, whining guy, somebody teasing LAOS, and philosopher dude for your calls!!!
