VGDJ: Shownotes #045
[00:00] A slightly different intro for this show. Hey, don't look at us. You guys asked for it! :P
[01:31] Ah, the beginnings of *another* glorious special edition of VGDJ. This week we'll have coverage from the 8-bit Genocide concert.. though "we" in this case means "pixietricks" as zircon can't go :( Nonetheless, it's good stuff. Oh, and since we're rockin' the charts at podcastalley, keep votin'.
[04:29] The Rama Report: In the absence of a NEW Rama Report, we've decided to give you something that you can listen to anytime and anywhere! It's... "Rama's Greatest Hits" brought to you by VGDJ Records!
[07:20] ReMix Review: From Earthbound: 'Nirvana' by Dhsu ... David Hsu is truly an excellent PEE-AHN-IST and never fails to disappoint with his expressive, flowing solo piano ReMixes. This song is no exception, taking a minimal tune and arranging it into something really beautiful. Even if the title calls forth images of Kurt Cobain, check this one out.
[10:35] ReMix Review: From Star Control 2: 'Lightyears Away' by Mark Vera ... Tight, 80s style beats mixed with cool synths - can't go wrong there. The ReMixer himself offers a few thoughts on the track, including an interesting tidbit; he personally knows one of the original composers of the Star Control 2 OST, hence why he likes remixing it. If you like this style, grab Mark's other tracks on OCR, and also head to MarkVera.net and Spacesynth.net, his personal site and music community, respectively.
[15:21] ReMix Review: From Secret of Mana: 'Dueling Consoles' by Shnabubula ... Ok, so zircon can't pronounce his name, but by now, you all should be familiar with Shnab's style - this mix really nails it. Simple chip sounds fighting with one another become a highly awesome sonic amalgamation, turning a somewhat dreary source tune into something way cooler.
[19:19] The Compo Report: PRC70 and TOMC13. Rather short this week, eh? (Pixie edit: Poor wittel snufflekins! Everybody wish Cyan_Ide and zircon well. They are *both* sick now. D:)
[21:23] Danny Adler - aka sgx - offers pixietricks the inside scoop on his new, original album: Chroma (available now at his website). We'll be giving away three signed copies of this highly awesome album over the next few shows, along with his previous remix album (Better Than Sliced Beats) so stay tuned!
[26:01] The Meetup Report: The Australia meetups are being finalized, with the Sydney meetup (Saturday, July 1st) being definite. An Otakon 2006 meetup is also being planned in addition to our actual panel. A Saskatchewan meetup is in the works, though it's status is still indefinite. Lastly, prominent ThaSauce contributor Xerol recently hosted a barbeque at his house in Maryland and has more planned for the future.
[31:01] Russian ReMix Roulette: Impossible. Improbable. INCONCEIVABLE!!!! For the first time in ten shows, pixietricks actually wins the RRR! And a fine track it is: Shnabubula makes another appearance in this episode with 'Behold the Winged Cathedral' from Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. WOOOO!!!
[39:36] pixietricks: Ace Reporter conducts an interview of massive proportions at the 8-bit Genocide show. Lots of very interesting thoughts and insights into the motivation for VGM-inspired groups and the culture as a whole! Bands/artists who were there: Shawn Phase of temp sound solutions, Powerglove, Entertainment System, pIENESS, and This Place is Haunted. Rock on! \m/
[54:47] What would a special feature be without... music?! Have a taste of temp sound solutions with their track 'Ninja Gaiden 2', followed by Entertainment System's 'Metroid Brinstar', and lastly, Powerglove's 'Themes B and C' mix from Tetris (on their album Total Pwnage).
[60:02] That wraps it up for this episode - our second longest, but surely, you guys won't have a problem with that! Anyway, keep writing us emails and voicemails, buy our stuff, post in our thread, vote, you know the deal. We out.
[63:19] VOICEMAIL: Drunken WesPip, DrumUltimA, Robert Reese, Salty, RAYZAAAA, LAOS, and Arcana (?).
[69:45] [stinger] ... (zircon edit: AAAARGH I'm going to kill you, Jill!!!!!)
