VGDJ: Shownotes #038

[00:00] Presenting Snooper_1989's intro, the 3rd place winner from our intro contest. Good job, Snooper!
[00:48] pixietricks is sounding awfully manly today, eh? Anyway, while we're moving up in the ranks on Podcast Alley, more votes would be welcome.
[02:37] Doug "DrumUltimA" Perry apparently needs some "plastic knives" from pixietricks to "cut his grapefruit". Oh DrumUltimA, what will you do next?
[03:21] It's true, VGDJ is having a BIRTHDAY PARTY, and everyone's invited! If you're interested in coming (Saturday May 20th, in Philadelphia) or want more information, check the meetup thread.
[04:50] The Rama Report: PLAY! (a live video game music concert) announces the addition of legendary VGM composer Koji Kondo to their lineup. OverLooked ReMix was momentarily down for a server upgrade (as of this writing, it's back up). Finally, ThaSauce - where you can go for more community news - has recently reached 100,000 hits in just under a year. Woohoo!
[07:31] ReMix Review: From Wild Arms 2: 'Lord Blazer, The Robot who Chills with da Peeps' by ktriton ... We had a few mixed feelings about this experimental mix, but we agreed that it's well-produced with a deep arrangement. It might take a few listens to appreciate but it's worth it. ktriton also has some things to say about his inspiration for the mix, as well as the OneUps Live concert. We dig.
[13:14] zircon loves The Compo Report: ORC45, ORC46, PRC65, PRC66, PRC: A, and FLMC2.
[16:18] The OneUps Live isn't far off - what is it, you say? Why, it's a live video game music concert featuring a veritable all-star lineup of artists, from Ailsean to po!, and even our very own pixietricks! The show will be on Saturday, May 27th in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but tickets are limited, so if you're interested you better pick 'em up now. No self-respecting video game music fan should miss out on this.
[18:50] The Meetup Report: There is talk of upcoming Canada meetups; if you're interested, check out the discussion thread. But, more importantly, we have a call from the Phoenix, AZ meetup. Thanks, guys! Keep checking that thread, as well as the one for the Fargo, ND meetup, for pics of your favorite peeps! (-5 points for the Fargo kids... They didn't call in...)
[22:16] The LOCKDOWN is coming, and you know what that means.. a selection of ReMixes will be removed from OverClocked ReMix forever. Oh no! Don't worry - even though you probably won't miss most of the ones that are getting chucked, there are two places where you can go to pick up any ReMixes that were removed from the site (and there are quite a few). Check out Xerol's mirror as well as the SuperTux mirror if you're interested.
[24:40] Russian ReMix Roulette: What are "Nardz" anyway? Continuing our streak of not guessing the actual remix that gets played on the roulette, we landed on... Xenogears 'Bonds of Sea and Fire' by JAXX, with a roll of FOUR.
[30:13] pixietricks explains the mysterious interruption of the show's recording by a cockroach of - apparently - enormous proportions. It doesn't really bother "zorcin" though.. zearson? dixiechix? pixiedix? GrayLightning? More like GAYlightning! Making insulting variations of people's handles is fun.
[35:26] That's a wrap! Thanks for listening and please, don't forget to vote. :)
[37:02] VOICEMAIL: Paul, the seller dude from Resident Evil 4, leomania, Less Ashamed of Self with some good LOL material, Arcana (BOO HOCKEY), Fusion2004, and Abadoss.
[42:14] [stinger]

Background music used in episode 038, in order of appearance:

- "Two Hits and the Joint Turned Brown" by Yonder Mountain String Band from Mountain Tracks: Vol 2
- "Waking Up in the Morning" from the Evangelion OST2 by Shiro Sagisu
- Donkey Kong Country 'Fear Factory' by bLiNd
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2 'Oil Spill' by analoq, from the Hedgehog Heaven remix project!
- Wolf's Rain 'This Time Tomorrow' by djpretzel
- "Perfect World" from The Vision of Escaflowne- Lovers Only
- Azumanga Daioh stuff surrounding the Compo Report
- Zelda: Link's Awakening 'Braving Tal Tal Heights' by DiscoDan
- "Last Samba" from the Katamari Damacy OST by Asuka Saka, Yu Miyake, and Katamari Samba Company
- Shining in the Darkness 'Down in the Dungeon Just Creatures and Me' by Taika
- Raiden 2 'Airborne' by tefnek
- Tetris 'McVaffe Quasi UltiMix' by McVaffe (always with the Russian ReMix Roulette)
- Voices of a Distant Star 'Shine' by Fray
- "Les Yeux Noirs" by Coco Briaval from Putamayo: Gypsy Caravan

VGDJ: Shownotes #037

[00:00] Seasonal greetings from VGDJ! Sort of...
[00:52] Spring is here in full bloom. But that doesn't mean you can't drop us a line or vote for us, right? Atta' boy...
[02:50] That was Andyjayne's intro you heard this week. Congrats on your second place winning entry! We loved it.
[03:20] Design changes abound at OverClocked ReMix, but not without a bit of controversy. New, sleeker pages and tables along with repositioned menus didn't particularly bother us, of course. ZOMG SIDEBAR LOL
[04:26] VGDJ redesigns, too! Our friendly neighborhood renaissance man Cyan_Ide and his friend Justin have come through and worked with us to fashion a new look for the site. Check out the new info pages, send us your pics for the VGDJ Action Shot Album, and don't forget about OCR-tan. :)
[06:21] The Rama Report: Annual video game and music convention MAGFest now has a set date and location for its fifth iteration; you can register and find out more at their site. The newly opened Remix: ThaSauce is thriving and rumor has it, John Romero is even giving it a look. Rama reminds potential submitters that R:TS accepts a wide variety of remixes, even those that would not be allowed at OCR. For more community news, visit ThaSauce!
[10:23] ReMix Review: From Lufia: 'Metastatic Bloodline' by Darangen ... Mr. Boyd never fails to bring us enjoyable instrumental rock mixes. Fans of his previous work will certainly enjoy this one, and the fact that it's not too different from his tried-and-true style didn't bother us at all.
[12:23] ReMix Review: From Earthbound: 'See Sixty Funk' by Mazedude ... Ch-ch-chiptune! Originally a part of the Earthbound Bound Together ReMix project (sorry, we said American Album by mistake!), this gritty & dirty mix stumped the judges a bit when it was first submitted; however, lo-fi doesn't necessarily mean bad. Listen for yourself and find out why.
[15:30] Compo Report: pixietricks really likes Cyan_Ide, who brings us the latest competition news: PRC:A XI, TOMC11, PTSC2, ORC45, PRC65, PRC66, and FLMC2.
[BLEEP] God damn you, Diablo D3! >:o
[18:52] I don't know how or why, but somehow... Rap + Chrono Trigger + ridiculously annoying DJ = ...GOOD?!?! Observe with thine own ears at chronotriggermixtape.com. Hey, if zircon can like it, anyone can. (Down with raphate!)
[20:35] Pixie announces the official debut of The Meetup Report, brought to you by resident percussionist and wide-mouthed frog DrumUltimA.
[21:07] The Meetup Report: Gotta love that theme song, eh? DrumUltimA exhibits some impressive linguistic skills right off the bat in our first ever "official" (whatever that means) meetup report... and such forth and...stuff. The Fargo, ND Meet will be held from April 21st-23rd, with Saturday as the bulk of the meetup events. And come on- who *wouldn't* wanna hang out in el casa de Flik? The Phoenix, AZ Meet is projected for that same Saturday (April 22nd), and will be located at The Paper Heart theater because, um, like, Minibosses show and stuff. They're pretty much the most famous videogame cover band out there, so don't miss it if you're in the area!
[23:30] Mad props to DrumUltiRash for a job well done! (Just make sure you're not clipping so much in recording next time, kay?)
[23:58] Russian ReMix Roulette: No, the roulette ain't rigged, folks. It's just that djpretzel has SIXTY-SIX FRIGGIN' REMIXES ON THE SITE! Good stuff. With an adrenaline-racing roll of three, we bring you... Frogger 'Funkaphibian Dub' by the main man, djpretzel.
[29:47] An innocent attempt at poking fun of zircon's lovable New York accent culminates into a heated BASEBALL BATTLE. Seriously, how did we never realize this before? Pixie's from Boston, zircon's from New York... Ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh. Johnny Damon may have crapped on Jill's heart, but that doesn't stop her from cueing the Dirty Water, yay-yeah!.
[33:12] And another delightful episode comes to a close. Contact info, blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah... Last one to VOTE is a rotten Easter egg! ^_~
[34:57] VOICEMAIL: Abadoss, Geoffrey Taucer, Hemophiliac, EazyP, and Upthorn- how are you guys so awesome? You're totally stealing the show. Thanks for calling 1-800-990-VGDJ!
[38:17] [stinger]

Background music used in episode 037, in order of appearance:

- Zombies Ate My Neighbors 'Neighburgers' by Protricity
- "Raspberry Heaven" from the Azumanga Daioh OST by Oranges & Lemons
- "It's a Jazz Thing" From Roni Size by Roni Size
- Castlevania 2 'Simon's Town' by Digimatic
- Streets of Rage 'Badass Posse' by McVaffe
- "Snowstorm" by McVaffe

- "Corners" from The Chrono Trigger Mixtape, Vol. #1 by Common
- "Castle" from the Makai Senki Disgaea OST by Disgaea
- Tetris 'McVaffe Quasi Ultimix' by McVaffe (always with the Russian ReMix Roulette)
- "Death Mountain" from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: Hyrule Symphony by Koji Kondo
- "Dirty Water" by the Standells (Red Sox represent!)

VGDJ: Shownotes #036

[00:00] In an unexpected turn of events, Wingless is defeated by his mortal enemy; a slice of pizza.
[01:16] A new host? WUT? Even if you hate judgefgts, keep those votes coming! We're lagging behind this month, and you don't want that to happen, do you?
[03:03] From the ashes of Wingless arises a new host; zircon! As a judge, moderator, and ReMixer, while he might not do a good Compyfox impression, he's definitely on top of things in the VG arrangement community. w00t!
[04:25] Compo Report, yo! Cyan_Ide has the hookup for your compo craving. We've got TOMC, PRC: Anime, ORC, FLMC, PRC, and PTSC. Phew!
[07:46] ReMix Review: From Super Mario Brothers 2: 'Gypsy Jazz' by Adrian Holovaty ... Who says you can't have fun with just one instrument? Adrian brings a playful and unique take on a classic SMB2 theme with nothing more than his trusty guitar. If only we could pronounce his last name.
[10:36] ReMix Review: From F-Zero: 'Voices Broken' by JigginJonT ... Electronica this ain't; we haven't seen any alternative rock ReMixes for awhile, so Jon delivered. Slick live guitarwork, expertly sequenced drums, screaming solos.. you won't want to miss this highly creative mix. Check it out.
[12:51] ReMix Review: From Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: 'Meow Meow' by Christian Pacaud ... Beautiful. Evocative. Breathtaking. These are all words that.. DON'T describe this OverLooked ReMix. As zircon explains, "OLR" is a site for all the poor, underappreciated, and neglected ReMixes of the world. Or maybe they're just really, really bad. Either way, we wholeheartedly endorse at least one visit.
[16:11] A new ReMix site that's not VGmix? Yes, as pixietricks explains, it's true. Remix: ThaSauce is here. While the standards aren't quite as high as OCR, the music is still enjoyable, and it's a great place for ReMixers who are still learning the ropes to get some exposure. You can even find songs by posted OC ReMixers like Darkesword, sadorf, Shnabubula, and Suzumebachi there, so don't hesitate to give it a look (or listen).
[17:49] We give you the skinny on this year's April Fool's Day prank at OCR, something which has become a tradition over the past few years. Maybe paying $15 a month for the privilege of listening to ReMixes didn't fool us, but we still got a kick out of "Terra Fortnight Megamix" and the hijinx that occured throughout the day on the OCR boards. Besides, it's hard to top EA ReMix ("It's in the Mix!").. which a certain host DID fall for ;)
[20:22] The Meetup Report: pixietricks tells a tale of the recent merriment at the Baltimore meetup on April 1st; check out the thread for pics and videos!
Fargo, ND Meet: April 21st through 23rd, no set time or specific location yet. Ten listed attendees so far though!
[24:17] Russian Remix Roulette: Though pixietricks was tempted by the BootyMix, the cosmic forces that be ended up on an old-school OCR classic. Valis 3: 'Simon's Symphony', by Visions of the Future.
[27:17] pixietricks ponders the hidden life of judges, and seeks nothing less than full disclosure! zircon has a few things to share about a certain someone on the panel. Also, if you're still hankering for some tunes at the end of every podcast, look no further than Ormgas, the official streaming internet radio station of OverClocked ReMix, which runs 24/7.
[30:41] Peace out! This may be the end of the show, but your journey to vote for us has just begun! Remember, you can contact us during the week at vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, or leave us a voicemail at 1-800-990-VGDJ.
[32:18] VOICEMAIL: Fresh out of the oven! It's.. Drunken WesPip giving some props, Abadoss, Drunken WesPip 2: The Return of WesPip, and DrumUltimA with perhaps a little too much information for us.
[35:21] [stinger]
