VGDJ: Shownotes #062

[00:00] Victory! 142 experience. 544 gold. zircon's level up!
[01:05] It started as a show like any other show, until...
[01:22] WTF Fusion2004??? Ah well. Da pixietricks be at de rehearsals this week, so rather than cancel the show, we found an old friend to sub in. And whatnot. ;)
[02:04] For not having been on the show for about 59 episodes, Fusion's not too rusty on our contact info! Call us up at 1-800-990-VGDJ to leave a voicemail, check out our OCR thread and vote for us at podcastalley.
[03:37] The Rama Report: Did anyone really notice Rama was on vacation...? Oh well, good to have him back! Shael Riley has released an audio bootleg of his Boston show at The Western Front. ReMixer and master shredder housethegrate is releasing an album and has put the call out to OCR to help with artwork. Keep updated on more community news at ThaSauce.net!
[05:30] Fusion2004 reveals the dark secrets behind the inner workings of ThaSauce and how stuff really gets done when Rama's involved.
[07:20] ReMix Review: Super Mario Brothers 'Moisturor' by ilp0 ... It's odd that SMB, despite being the most popular game of all time, isn't even in the top three most ReMixed games. That being said, relative newcomer ilp0 has given it the attention it deserves with a smooth, instrumental rock ReMix of the aquatic level theme. Good stuff.
[09:35] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy 10 'How Much Longer' by tekcoh_top ... Perhaps one of the most surprising first submissions to hit OCR in recent times, tekcoh_top (pot hocket) brings us a very emotional classical guitar version of the immortal "Suteki Da Ne" from FF10, with a bit of FF7 tunage mixed in. We both were diggin' it, and while pixietricks wasn't here, she was a preeeetty big fan when this hit the panel as well. Mr. Lee was also kind enough to send in a voice clip talking about himself and the mix, to give a little bit of background. Thanks bro!
[13:53] Between VGDJ, Ormgas, and OCR itself, you might think that there are enough ways to grab all your favorite video game music rearrangements. We respectfully disagree. Forum member CCMods has essentially completed a simple Java app he calls the OCReMix Jukebox that lets you easily browse any posted ReMix and instantly stream it right from the app. Bandwidth and ad revenue concerns aside, we think it's a pretty cool idea - especially for people on slower connections or with smaller hard drives, as the program doesn't keep the music on your drive once it's played.
[16:08] Compo Report: Anime Remix, FLMC, TOMCX, PRC, CMC, and CMC2.
[18:56] Our voicemails just keep getting weirder and weirder.
[19:05] It looks like Shael Riley is just up to no good. First, he's releasing bootlegs of his own music, now he's just waltzing into the MAGfest 5 concert lineup?! Who does he think he is, some sort of big shot nerdcore musician? .. oh wait. Seriously though, congrats Shael and keep it up :)
[21:54] Meetup Report: HI DOUG WELCOME BACK DOUG! There is but one meetup this week of note, that being the Western Prairie/Canada meet. Umm more meetups plz.
[23:45] Russian ReMix Roulette: zircon and Fusion might not have any dice to speak of, but does that stop them? NO! The powers of dork are activated and an... improvised solution is developed to avoid disaster. Surprisingly, Fusion's choice of mix was selected, despite its somewhat lame title; MIDIMan's 'MegaDance Mix 2002' from Super Metroid.
[33:01] Just a quick review of the contest we started last week for y'all. We're asking for cosplays of video game characters that were created for this Halloween (so no pictures from old cons). Send us pics to vgdjpodcast@gmail.com by November 1st and we'll be sending out prizes to the three entries we feel were the best.
[35:21] Fusion2004 discusses the age old question you've ALL been asking yourselves since the beginning of this show - why his name is still "Fusion2004" rather than "Fusion2006".
[39:51] That's a wrap! Hope everyone enjoyed the presence of a guest host for the second week in a row. We (zircon & pixie) would like to thank Mark for filling in at the last minute and encourage everyone to check out his radio show; if you're on irc.enterthegame.com, just go to #FusionRadio. And while you're on EntertheGame you can also visit our chat, #vgdj.
[41:28] VOICEMAIL: Salty (not drunk), Kento, Salty (drunk), sinclair44, Salty (drunk... again), creepy contest winner guy, "O" guy, Salty (not drunk - just kidding!), creepy cooking guy, pixietricks, Kento again, Salty (very drunk), unintelligible guy, and Mad Max.

VGDJ: Shownotes #061

[00:00] VGDJ no Podokashito! Sutekiiiii desu ne!? ^-^;;;;;;;;
[01:02] Like, did you hear about that podcast about, like, video games n' stuff? And you can talk to them on their thread? And like, they say to go like do this voting thing at podcastalley? What-EVERRRR!
[04:03] D: No Rama report AND no meetup report? What will we ever do?
[04:24] A new challenger approaches! It seems as though DrumUltimA has been temporarily promoted from minihost to REAL host. Hoo boy...
[05:22] ReMix Review: Super Mario Bros "Super Mario Blues" by Neskvartetten ... Jazz. Blues. Smooth Blues. However you want to describe it, Nesk4's funky live rendition of Koji.... Kondo's perennial classic is a winner in our book.
[09:16] Chad Behnke is the roughest, toughest, BADDEST mofo in the biz. That's why he's the only guy we trust to deliver our...
[09:40] Compo Report: TOMCXI, PRC78, PRC79, CMC1, FLMC4, and ARHK2k6.
[12:58] Wooten for Magfest 5. We discuss all the ins and outs of what is shaping up to be the biggest OCR meetup in history (as well as a damn cool festival/convention for video game and VGM lovers of all kinds). Check the OCR thread if you're interested attending, and don't forget to register early.
[18:32] Russian ReMix Roulette: Well, Doug's getting married, apparently, but no matter. Polygamy is OK by us if it means running ye olde Roulette as normal. This week, it's a competition of musical brains versus business brawn; the clash of the titans! It's Peabody vs. Drexel in an epic fight to the finish. Or just whatever song gets selected gets played through. That could happen too. Anyway, zircon's alma mater is victorious! From Super Mario World, it's "Grand Valse Mario" by bladiator.
[26:19] New contest? We're CRAZY! It's the First Annual VGDJ Halloween Cosplay Contest. We want you to show us how geeky you really are. Send in pics of your best cosplay (has to be done for THIS Halloween... no old convention pics please) to vgdjpodcast@gmail.com by 5PM (EST) Wednesday, November 1st. We're giving out three prizes (at least) this time around, and the judging criteria is whatever we feel like. Whether you've got a funny costume, a creative one, a badass one, or just a really GOOD one, we'll take anything. So get to sewin'!
[28:29] zircon, pixietricks, and DrumUltimA reminisce on Halloweens past, present, and future. Don't you think zircon would be a great Mario?
[31:24] Alright, alright, enough tri-host terror for one show. Doug might be incapable of properly delivering our contact information, so here it is, reproduced for your viewing pleasure; OCR album, PodcastAlley store, Cafepress album, and vote at photos! Err, wait... OK, here we go. Album, thread, vote, store. I knew that.
[35:11] VOICEMAIL: Kento, Mad Max, singing guy, Chap Lipman, Japanese singing guy, spammer guy, singing guy again, and row row row your boat guy.
[38:10] [stinger]

VGDJ: Shownotes #060

[00:09] Thanks, anonymous Russian partner-in-crime.
[00:58] We're back, and blackidy black! Errr... wait, that's Wingless' line. Anyway, be thankful that you didn't have to suffer through episode 60 with a "snufflecon," because it would not have been pretty. Also be thankful that we've got our VGM promotion contest winners coming up later on the show. XD
[01:57] Proceeding with caution... You can reach us during the week through any of the following methods: www.vgdj.net, vgdjpodcast@gmail.com, 1-800-990-VGDJ, irc.enterthegame.com #vgdj, and our OCR thread. Plz do.
[02:46] Don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley this month, as we are a little behind due to aforementioned illnesses. (Damn you, snuffleconnnnn!)
[03:24] The Rama Report: Ooh, Rama, you sexy thang! Video game band Wave Theory, featuring such remixers as AE, Digimatic, and J:/Drive, has reworked their myspace page and added some live cuts of various performances they've had. Delish. The September chapter of the Dwelling of Duels competition has wrapped up, with ansgaros in first place. If you like the music of Silent Hill, be sure to check out the entries here. Everybody welcome master of words (and VGDJ fan!) "Ferret" to ThaSauce, where he'll be writing a weekly column on various subjects. And lastly, ReMix: ThaSauce has upgraded to version 2.0, so liek yay for it.
[06:46] (Note: VGDJ does not condone the illegal usage of drugs. Thank you.)
[06:52] ReMix Review: Chrono Trigger 'Antimatter' by Beatdrop ... Beatdrip? Beatdroop? Noooo, it's Beatdrop! Grab your earplugs, kiddies, cuz this is a loud 'un. (Note: VGDJ cannot be held responsible for any permanent loss of hearing.)
[10:27] ReMix Review: Shining Force CD 'Five-Sided Square' by Quinn Fox ... Veteran remixer Quinn Fox brings us a brand spanking new track from Shining Force CD. Electric piano, understated percussion, and parallel fourths... Minimalist, but good! Hope you enjoy.
[12:37] ReMix Review: Amberstar 'AmberTrance' by VIRTUALVIBE ... Watch as zircon butchers the original composer name! Live trance; who knew it could be this fun? Kinda makes you wanna get up and dance, no? A nice debut from Mr. Beat Gregoric.
[15:24] ReMix Review: Cave Story 'Escape Route' by Corran ... First Cave Story remix evarrrrrr! It's pretty swanky, too. Some beautiful flute work from Corran in this 60's rock arrangement, as well as an interesting drum solo towards the middle. Groovy...
[17:55] ReMix Review: Mega Man 3 'Blue Balls' by Sukotto42 ... Oh my, what a remix title. Are we supposed to compare the music to a certain painful sensation sometimes experienced in the male anatomy? I guess that works... It's definately a "high-tension piece," melding many a source tune from the game. While pixietricks may not be able to identify, she can use her keen "female" qualities to empathize with the poor opposite sex.
[22:26] ReMix Review: Final Fantasy 'Fire Cross' by LuIzA ... Um, girl power? This remix, winner of the January Dwelling of Duels competition, is not what you'd expect from a softspoken Brazilian woman, now is it? Well, sucks to you, because LuIzA definitely knows how to rock. Get your napkins handy, fellas, because this one's sure to make you drool.
[26:41] (The things our listeners will do to be heard on this show... o_O)
[27:28] Compo Report: PRC, CMC, FLMC, TOMCXI, and Anime ReMix.
[30:57] Duuuude! Spring break at VGDJ.net! WOOO!
[31:03] The biggest, baddest, and flat-out nerdiest convention is coming up, and this year OCR will be attending in full force. It's none other than MAGfest 5! This January 4th through the 7th, expect the best iteration of the gaming/music festival yet. If you're interested in joining the discussion, seeing the guest list, or figuring out transportation/sleeping arrangements, hit up the announcement thread on OCR... courtesy of pixietricks!
[35:17] Russian ReMix Roulette: zircon begins to grow uneasy with his lack of die-rolling in recent times (he is po' after all), but the dice were apparently not rigged as no one correctly guessed the track that was chosen; Darangen's "Falling Back" from Zelda 64. Oh well. We're not complaining. :)
[42:39] The winners of the contest we started on Episode 059 are announced! We asked you guys to submit to us tales of the craziest things you've ever done to promote OCR, VGDJ, or video game music in general. But we got so many submissions, and there were so many good ones, that we decided to pick five winners instead of three. So here they are, in no particular order: Andrew Anderson (put up post-its that said ocremix.org all over his school), Brandon "MidgetMe" Duckett (got video game music played on four local TV stations w/ 33k+ viewers), Kanthos (worked in video game music into his accompaniment part for a musical), MadMax (put OCR and VGDJ stickers on his notebooks and etched "OverClocked ReMix" into a dog tag), and Abadoss (brought a CD of ReMixes for his entire aerobics/dance class to exercise to).

Congratulations guys! If you were one of the five winners, remember to email us with your address, shirt size, and what kind of shirt/hoodie you want. For everyone else, thank you very much for participating. Keep on giving this community the attention it deserves!

[50:47] Oh no, we're senior citizens! That means... uh... huh... what? Where are we? What are you young whippersnappers doing here?! When we were your age, voting at PodcastAlley took five hours! Both ways! And we didn't have one of those fancy-schmancy OCR threads or photo albums either. You kids get off our lawn!
[53:26] VOICEMAIL: Kento, Fusion2004, Zero the Ultimate Warrior, Pokemon song guy, DJAnubis, DrumUltimA (heart), Valerius, prophet guy.
